The Ancient Vault – Hunter is one of the first vaults most players reach, and its three-button door puzzle has stumped plenty of Flameborn. Here is the complete solution, cross-checked against multiple walkthroughs.

Where is the Hunter Vault?

Northeast of the Longkeep, on the far side of the Shroud-filled canyon. The easiest route is across Braelyn Bridge with the grappling hook (which you will also need inside); otherwise glide from the canyon rim as far as you can and walk the rest. Multiple walkthroughs also describe reaching it by gliding east from the Springlands Ancient Spire.

How do you solve the three-button puzzle?

You need a bow or a spell for the first button and the grappling hook for the third. The locked door sits left of the first staircase, marked with three symbols.

Button 1 — the pillar switch

From the top of the first stairs, look to the pillar on the right side (opposite the locked door). A switch glows on it, out of melee reach — shoot it with an arrow or a spell. This unlocks the door on the right.

Button 2 — inside the opened room

Walk through the door you just opened. The second switch is on the wall to the right, just past the entrance. Interact with it normally.

Button 3 — above the main entrance

The trickiest one. Return to the top of the first staircase and look back toward the vault’s main entrance — the third switch glows on the ledge directly above the door you came in through.

To reach it:

1. Stand on the brazier on the right side of the stairs (you will not take burn damage)
2. Do a running jump toward the entrance, deploy your glider briefly
3. Grapple the anchor point above as the prompt appears mid-glide
4. Swing toward the climbable walls on either side of the ledge, grab one, and climb up
5. Interact with the switch, then drop carefully — the traps below hurt

With all three pressed, the locked door on the left opens.

What loot is inside the Hunter Vault?

• Epic weapon chest behind the puzzle door — commonly reported as an epic Bronze Sword; contents can vary
• The Hunter (Athelan Skree) — grapple across the lava at the top of the stairs to reach his pod; freeing him unlocks drying-rack crafting and more at your base
• Forest Longbow — from a chest on the roof route near the Hunter’s room

The vault sits on the Braelyn Bridge route — combine the trip with the Bridge Construction Report chest on the middle pillar below.

Any tips before you go?

Bring arrows, the grappling hook, and a few bandages; the vault has electric-ball traps and enemies at the entrance. If you are following the beginner route, this is a great early stop after the Blacksmith — and once you finish here, the Alchemist’s vault is the next crafter rescue worth routing.
