Enshrouded left Early Access on October 15, 2026, launching simultaneously on Steam and PlayStation 5. After nearly three years of updates, the 1.0 release is the biggest one yet — here is everything that changed, compiled from the official changelog and launch coverage.

What does the 1.0 update add?

The short version: the story is complete, the world map is fully open, magic and the skill system were overhauled, and the game runs better. Below is the full breakdown.

A complete world map — and Cinder’s Cradle

The gates past the Veilwater Basin are open, revealing Cinder’s Cradle, the final biome. It has two faces: a lava wasteland below, and a realm of floating sky islands above, connected by tendrils of the Shroud. A new faction of Ancient guardians defends its secrets, along with a new end-game boss high in the sky.

Two new Hollow Halls (large multi-level dungeons) also opened — one in the Albaneve Summits and one in the Veilwater Basin — and Springlands, Blackmire and Kindlewastes all gained new edge-of-map areas with fresh points of interest and Shroud Roots.

The story concludes

1.0 finishes the main narrative: the mysteries of the Ancients and the Shroud are revealed, and the final confrontation awaits on the sky islands. Full voice acting in English, Chinese and German was added for the whole game.

Sparkworks: logic for builders

Sparkworks is 1.0’s headline new system: player-built logic that lets you wire interactive traps, puzzles, doors and encounters into your world. If you ever wanted to build a playable dungeon for friends, this is the tool. Community creations are shared through the expanded Adventure Sharing features.

Magic overhaul: nine new spells

Spellcasting got the biggest content injection:

  • Mana Drain, Entangle, Pillar of Flames, Blizzard, Ball Lightning
  • Summon Fire, Summon Ice, Summon Shock, Summon Hollow Skeleton

Every spell also has an eternal variant for the endgame, and spells/arrows can now be upgraded like weapons. Mage characters should re-read our 1.0 mage build — the old rotation has changed.

Reworked skill tree with a free reset

The skill tree was reworked again for 1.0, and every existing character gets a free full reset the first time an old save loads — you will find your points refunded and ready to re-spend. New skills include Aerial Wand Attack, Wand Evasion Attack, Advanced Necromancy, Totem Mastery, Blast and Cast, Puncture, Barrage and Survival Instinct, and dagger skills moved to the assassin side of the tree. Our 1.0 skill tree guide covers what to pick.

Higher level cap and progression

The character level cap rises to 50, with equipment upgradeable to 55. In a notable mechanical shift for 1.0, armor and rings add ranks to your skills, and food adds damage rather than raw attributes — gearing and cooking are now real build decisions.

Performance and presentation

Keen Games introduced a new “brick renderer” for denser detail at distance with lower memory use, plus per-biome lighting, improved shadows, dynamic global illumination and HDR support. Network code was also optimized — good news for dedicated servers.

Platforms and price

  • PC (Steam) and PS5: October 15, 2026, $39.99 / €39.99 with a 10% launch discount for the first two weeks
  • Xbox Series X|S: planned for spring 2027
  • Crossplay: supported between PC and PS5 — see our crossplay guide

What carries over from Early Access?

Existing saves work: your character, base and world persist — only the skill tree resets (points are refunded, nothing is lost). Early Access players also keep exclusive cosmetic rewards.

Frequently asked questions

Is 1.0 the end of updates? No. Keen Games has committed to free and paid content support for years, with the Xbox launch and future updates planned through 2027 and beyond.

Should I start a new character for 1.0? Returning saves work fine, but a fresh run is the cleanest way to experience the rebalanced progression and new story pacing.

Where do I go first in 1.0? Finish opening your map, then push toward the Veilwater Basin gates — the road to Cinder’s Cradle starts there.
